Almost no W winds during september this year, so the seabird passage was not as good as on other years. Two danish friends who visited us during the first half of the month, Soren Pedersen and Torben Sorensen, enjoyed an almost mediterranean climate, but not a single really goog day at the headland.
During the 13 days of count from sept. 5th to Sept 30th (37,4 hs) only 10.457 birds were counted, 6.296 of them Northern Gannets. Very few Skuas: 82 Arctic, 130 Pomarines (104 of them on 30th), 179 Great and 7 long-Tailed. Only 1 Great Shearwater was seen, and just 612 Sooties, 571 Cory’s and 130 Manxies! Other poor numbers were 371 “Comic” Terns and 1.316 Sandwich.
Instead there were some nice sightings of migrants in the headland, with several days of very good arrivals of Wrynecks, Wheatears, Flycatchers, Pipits etc. Some scarce species for the area found were Tawny Pipit, Blue rock thrush, Pallid Swift, Garden Warbler or Stock Dove.
An Audouin’s Gull, juv-1st winter, was also seen on 6th.
