Jul. 17-19th: Arctic Tern, Pallid Swift and more

The mixed winds blowing during these three days provided nice numbers of Gannets, only a few of them adult birds. Cory’s passage was of 25-50 birds/h. Only 7 Pomarines and 7 Great Shearwaters were counted during almost 10 hours, as well as 16 Great Skuas, 1 Arctic Skua and several Balearic Shearwaters flying westwards and eastwards. Black Scoter and Whimbrel numbers were increasing.

The first Arctic Tern of the season, an adult bird, was watched on 19th.

On 18th, a huge concentration of Common Swifts over Bares village included a Pallid Swift. The day before there was a Black Vulture together with Griffon Vultures over Serra da Faladoira, the closest hights to Estaca de Bares.
